The presentation defines apnea, hypopnea, and upper airway resistance syndrome, and distinguishes obstructive, central, and mixed events. It outlines the pathophysiology of sleep‑disordered breathing, especially in COPD and its contribution to pulmonary hypertension. Clinical features, screening tools such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and polysomnography modalities are described. Management strategies include behavioral measures, positive airway pressure therapy, and adjunctive treatments. The impact of untreated sleep apnea on cardiovascular outcomes and quality of life is highlighted.
