Extra-Hepatic Portal Venous Obstruction (EHPVO) is a vascular disorder affecting the liver, characterized by obstruction of the extra-hepatic portal vein. It is a common cause of portal hypertension, particularly in developing countries, and is a leading cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in children. EHPVO can manifest acutely with symptoms like abdominal pain and ascites, or chronically with recurrent bleeding from esophageal varices. Diagnostic tools include Doppler US, CT, and MRI to visualize the obstruction and potential cavernoma.
