The text explains that interferons (IFNα, IFNβ, IFNγ) are primarily produced by leukocytes and fibroblasts, with antiviral effects mediated by protein kinase production. IFNγ is produced by T lymphocytes and natural killer cells, activating macrophages and promoting B-cell IgG production. Tumor necrosis factor (TNFα) is identified as a central mediator of inflammatory changes following bacterial lipopolysaccharide release, sharing features with IL-1 and enhancing macrophage and polymorph chemotaxis. Side effects of interferon therapy include myelosuppression, hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, and pulmonary infiltrates.
