Kawempe Referral Hospital
This cross-sectional study at Kawempe National Referral Hospital aims to determine the prevalence of Chronic Kidney Dysfunction (CKD) in pregnant women attending their first antenatal visits. CKD is defined by serum creatinine levels, eGFR, or proteinuria, and can lead to poor maternal and fetal outcomes such as preeclampsia, preterm delivery, low birth weight, and fetal death. The study seeks to identify factors associated with CKD in this population, as estimates for Sub-Saharan Africa are currently unavailable, unlike the 3% estimated in high-income countries. Early detection is highlighted as crucial for management and slowing disease progression.
