Caring for preterm babies places immense pressure on parents, particularly mothers, impacting their mental health and social relationships. The unexpected nature of preterm birth, the unique characteristics of these infants, and the unfamiliar Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) environment contribute to parental anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy. Challenges also include financial strain, disruption of family life, and separation from the infant. Effective support requires a family-centered approach, open communication, parental education, peer support, and multidisciplinary collaboration, emphasizing that care extends beyond medical treatment to encompass emotional and social well-being.
