Busitema University
The study investigates whether the GLUKOTAK poly‑herbal remedy, composed of Carica papaya, Maytenus Senegalensis, Aloe vera, and curcumin, exhibits mutagenic activity in bacterial assays and teratogenic effects in pregnant Wistar rats. In‑vitro mutagenicity is evaluated using the Ames test with varying doses, while in‑vivo teratogenicity is assessed by monitoring fetal development, skeletal and visceral abnormalities. Results aim to inform patient safety, regulatory registration, and rational prescribing of the herbal product. The work was conducted at the NAPRIC laboratory of Busitema University over a six‑month period.
