While many adults diagnosed with atopic dermatitis achieve disease control with standard treatments, some patients remain refractory to optimal management. This guideline aims to address potential misdiagnosis or the presence of concomitant conditions that may contribute to treatment failure. An expert multidisciplinary workgroup utilized the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation methodology to develop a Good Practice Statement on the diagnostic workup for these cases. The guidance emphasizes the importance of further evaluation in cases of treatment-resistant AD to avoid missed diagnoses and inappropriate management.
