The research included 24,718 participants from 51 urban and 49 rural communities across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia, with a mean follow-up of 10.3 years. It calculated CVD incidence and mortality rates for the total cohort and subpopulations, examining hazard ratios and population attributable fractions (PAFs) for 12 modifiable risk factors. The leading causes of death were identified as CVD, cancer, and respiratory diseases, with a significant portion of PAFs attributed to modifiable risk factors such as hypertension and obesity.
