Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC)
The study investigates the efficacy of aspirin compared to low-molecular-weight heparin in preventing thromboembolic events in patients with extremity fractures. Conducted as a pragmatic, multicenter, randomized, noninferiority trial, it enrolled patients aged 18 and older who had undergone surgical treatment for fractures. The primary outcome measured was mortality at 90 days, with secondary outcomes including nonfatal pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
